Prayer for the Mothers of the World

A Maryknoll Prayer

For all Widows in the Sudan and elsewhere
For Migrant Mothers in our globalized world
For Mothers with Husbands in Prison
For the Mothers of all Maryknollers
For Mother Earth, that we may return the nurturing she has given us
For Mothers of our Benefactors and Benefactors who are Mothers
For Mothers in Darfur
For Mothers of the military members of all armies and
Mothers who serve in the military
For Mothers of the wounded in war
For Mothers of journalists and Mothers who are journalists
For Mothers who cannot feed their children
For Mothers living with HIV/AIDS
Loving God, we give thanks for all Mothers who continue to create LIFE with you through their nurturing, loving, accompanying, suffering and celebrating. We give thanks for all people who are life-givers and life-giving, and ask your blessing on mentors, teachers, counselors, and all who join in your wish for life in abundance for everyone.

Amen.

Happy Mother's Day to all you moms out there!

Franciscan Benediction

I LOVE this. I've read that it's a Franciscan Benediction:

May God bless you with discomfort: at easy answers, at half-truths, and superficial relationships, so that you may live deep within your heart.
May God bless you with anger: at injustice, oppression, and exploitation of people, so that you may work for justice, freedom, and peace.
May God bless you with tears to shed: for those who suffer from pain, rejection, starvation, and war, so that you may reach out your hand to comfort them and to turn their pain into joy.
And may God bless you with enough foolishness to believe that you can make a difference in this world, so that you can do what others claim cannot be done.
