One of her latest creations. It's "a bug with wings and lots of legs".

"Our Family"

This one's probably my favorite (for obvious reasons). Perhaps she'll draw an updated version in March! :-)

"Mermaids"

This one's cool, too. The mermaid on the left is an unknown, while the one on the right is Ariel (from The Little Mermaid). I love the unknown's tail! And I think that may be a banana inside her, but I forget. I'll have to double-check. ;-)

"Dropping Grandma & Grandpa Off at the Airport"

This is the one that really blew me away. (Sorry she drew on the other side of the paper; it kind of messes with the effect a little bit, but not too much.) We dropped my parents off at the aiport one afternoon last week, and that evening she drew this (and "Airplane"). She carried it over to me and told me what it was. My jaw literally dropped. I yelled, "Stephen, look at this!!" I just couldn't believe that a three-year-old could be so perceptive. I mean, all we did was drop her grandparents off curbside, and drove away. She was able to recall driving up to the terminal, driving away, and the way the cars went around on the round-about. Incredible.

"Airplane"

She drew this after we dropped Grandma and Grandpa off at the airport. I don't know what the really big object is, but the thing at the bottom is the airplane. It sort of has the shape of a fuselage. It even has the windows!

"Banana & Slide"

This one's pretty interesting. There's the slide, and detached from it are the stairs to the slide. (She's identified these objects on more than a couple occasions.) And then of course there's the banana, which she seems to like to throw in to her drawings now and then!

"Lady, Man & Cat"

Another thing I wanted to mention is that she almost always remembers what it is that she drew. For example, I've asked her what something is immediately after she drew it, and she's given me an answer. I've then gone back a few days later and asked her the same question (of the same drawing), and she's almost always given me the same response. So in other words, she's not just casually saying, "Oh, this is a cat." To her, it really is a cat, and it was intended to be so when she started drawing it.

"Man, Lady & Trumpet"

Look at the trumpet! Isn't it right on?! This is all from memory, too. She isn't looking at pictures or objects when she's drawing these.

"Lady With Ice Cream"

Stephen and I (and others) have been amazed by Emily's drawings lately. Actually, she just recently started taking an interest in sitting down with markers and drawing various objects on paper, and I have truly been blown away by some of the things she's produced. I'm no expert, but for her age, she seems to me to be quite good. Her favorite subjects to draw seem to be: spiders, ladies and bananas. :-)

To me, the most amazing one so far has been "Dropping Grandma & Grandpa Off at the Airport".

I know I'm biased, but I'll say it anyway. This child is incredible!

Em's Letters

Em wrote these letters back in April, on a friend's birthday card.

     

Em's M

Emily wrote her very first 'M' last month! It was quite exciting. She wrote it on her chalkboard, so before she got a chance to erase it, I had Stephen snap a shot of it.

The first letter she ever wrote was an 'O', and she can also write a 'C'.
