'Christmas' vs. 'Holidays'
It's really quite amazing... here we are in the middle of a God-awful war, people are losing their jobs, some are homeless due to a horrible hurricane, and all these "religious" conservatives seem to be concerned about is whether people use the phrase "Merry Christmas" or "Happy Holidays". (I say "religious" because to me, so much of their Christianity seems to be put on.) Really people, there are much more problematic things going on in this country right now. Please, oh please, get your priorities straight and act like true CHRISTIANS! I highly doubt Christ Himself would have cared about "Christmas vs. Holidays". I think the war, homelessness, etc. would have been much more alarming in His eyes! So seriously, GET A LIFE, people!!!

Hi Molly,
I totally agree with you. I think boycotting might have it's place, but trying to force people to use "Merry Christmas" by means of boycotting seems silly and petty. I'm still shopping at Target. They have some of the nicest big-girl clothes of our main shopping choices (Walmart and Kohl's being the other two) and they still carry lots of nice religious and "Christmassy" Christmas things.
I think there was also some confusion about them not allowing Salvation Army collection buckets. People had read this as anti-christian. My understanding is that they stopped allowing any soliciations in front of their stores, but according to their website they are partnering with Salvation Army in other ways.
Hey Alicia,
Thanks for the comment. I have no problem with boycotts. In fact, I try to steer clear of businesses whose practices I disagree with. For example, I stay away from Wal-Mart because I don't like the way they do business. (Not that this is a true boycott, because if there's something I really need from there, I'll go. But I definitely favor Target, which is funny... here I try to avoid Wal-Mart and favor Target, and Therese tries to avoid Target and favors Wal-Mart! ;-)
Anyway, my point is that boycotts don't bother me -- it's just the hypocrisy of the whole thing. (And I agree that getting someone to say "Merry Christmas" by boycotting is VERY silly, to say the least.) Like I said, there's so much more going on in this country, and to act as though this is the worst is appalling. I hardly ever agree with Mike Straka, but here's one where I think he's right-on:

Merry Christmas!!
Love,
Molly
I agree with you two about not boycotting Target for this reason. We also dislike Wal-Mart and don't shop there. Actually, Salvation Army is where I find the best deals here (when your kid is only going to fit in the outfit for six months, why pay top dollar?). Happy Advent :)
Thanks for commenting, Darlene. Happy Advent to you, too! :-)
