I Think We're Alone Now...

... There doesn't seem to be anyone a-rou-ound...

Stephen's up in the desert. He left last night and comes home tomorrow evening. This is the second time I've ever been alone in the house (not technically alone -- I do have Em & Xyno -- but alone as in without him), and this time I'm not afraid like the last. (Which is strange, for various reasons which I won't go into right now...)

I'm sorry I've been MIA for the past month and a half. We went on a big trip out to the Midwest for my mother- & father-in-law's 50th wedding anniversary, and ever since we returned home, it seems life for us Lawlesses has been non-stop. We've had guests, parties, barbecues, concerts at the Lake, dinners with friends, swim days, beach days... I could go on and on. I also haven't been motivated to do much of anything (anything productive, that is) since we got home. Actually, now that Mom, Dad, Z & G have gone on their vacation, our "party life" has slowed down a bit, which is nice (not that they're gone, but just that things are more quiet lately).

It's funny, but it seems like I'm actually getting more done with Stephen gone. Of course I'd rather have him home; I just think it's interesting. I've felt more motivated to get the housework done, and I've even been working on my Flickr account a lot today and last night (and of course now I'm blogging, which I haven't done since June 10th!). The reason why I get the online stuff done more easily when Stephen's gone is simple: I accomplish more after Em goes to bed, and when Stephen's home, I like to go to bed when he does. But since he's gone, I don't mind going to bed late (REALLY late), so I have a couple or even a few hours to do stuff after the little one has gone off to Dreamland. Why I get more chores done around the house is not so easily explained, though. Hmm.

Speaking of
Flickr, what a great little site! My sister-in-law, Sharon, first introduced me to it months ago, and then my other sister-in-law, Alicia, reintroduced it recently. I decided to take a look at it, and once I did, I decided to play around with it. Once I did that, I was hooked. (Thanks a lot, guys!! ;-) Stephen likes it too, so we decided to go ahead and pay the $25 for a year's subscription. (They offer a free account, too, but if you have as many photos as we do, you'd quickly realize that the paid -- they call it "pro" -- account is very necessary. Okay, not necessary, but highly desirable!) Go ahead and check out our account. (I warn you, I have many pictures up already -- 190 to be exact, and I plan on uploading more tomorrow!) I haven't put any of my photos into albums yet (they call them "sets"), but I will do so soon. What I'm really looking forward to is scanning all my old family photos that are collecting dust and putting them up on the site. That way, I (and anyone else who so desires) can look at them whenever I want, in a very convenient way. They'll also be preserved. I can't wait to get started on that project!

Okay, I think I'm gonna go off to bed now. I hope to start blogging on a more regular basis, but something tells me that it may be a while before that happens. I guess we'll see!

Are you using the flickr uploadr tool? It's really convenient and you can create sets as you go besides.

Glad you're enjoying flickr. It's all Sharon's fault. ;)

Yes, is is her fault! :-)

I'm using the Uploadr most of the time. I guess I'm not making sets yet because I'm such a weirdo when it comes to organizing things. I like things "just so", and I want to make sure I do everything "right" (when it comes to dating & naming everything, etc.). Silly, I know. I guess I'm trying to just take my time so that I'm happy with my results. Sometimes I have a tendency to do too much too fast and then I feel like I mess everything up! Actually, there's the one downside to the Uploadr (for me, at least). It uploads everything in such huge batches (as huge as you want them to be, of course), and sometimes I fear that I'll make a mistake. For example, I might want one picture to go in a certain spot in my Photostream, but I messed up and it ended up waaaay over there. That can be corrected, but correcting it can also be a pain.

See, I told you I'm weird! ;-)

Yes, the huge batches can be a pain, and you can't arrange them in uploadr (that would be a nice feature). That's realy why I rely on my sets though. The sets are really easy to arrange in whatever order you like. (Both the list of sets and the pictures within each set).

Believe me, I understand that kind of weird. I think we're both organizer types, eh?

Good to know, thanks!

I have a (completely unrelated) question. The sidebar on my blog has somehow moved all the way to the bottom of the page, and I don't know why. I don't see anything in the template HTML that would make it do that. Do you have any ideas? It's highly possible I'm missing something, though... I could send you the text if that would help.

Thanks!

Oh, and yes, most definitely, we're both the organizer types. :-)

I have that happen sometimes too. I think it's related to having a blog title that's too long and gets stretched out in the archives list. I ended up tweaking my code to make my text area and sidebar wider. I think that's why I haven't had the problem in a long time.

Ah, I see. I guess I need to do that, too.

Thanks!

Molly-- It's great to see you on Flickr. I love it when everyone else shares my addictions, like loving coffee. You taught me something I didn't know about Flickr which is very cool--that I could change the order of my photostream by changing the uploading date. I haven't been able to figure out how to highlight my better pictures (on the clairity site) and still archive all the ones I want to keep. You provided the key! I tried to batch change those in Organizer, and the different dates didn't take. Oh well.

You're not alone after all. ;)

Glad I could be of service, Sharon! (I'm always the one to learn things from others; it's nice when the roles are reversed for a change!) :-)

And you're right: I'm not alone, which is so very nice.
