Em's Vocabulary
This is a list of the words in Em's vocabulary as of today. Don't feel obligated to comment; this is really just for my personal use. I'm learning that this blog is a convenient place to post things that I want to remember or look up later. It sure beats filing them away just to end up losing them.
- Da, Day or Daddy (Stephen)
- Ma or Mama (me)
- Law (Lawless)
- Ma (Grandma)
- Pa (Grandpa)
- Beo (Thello -- no word for Xyno yet!)
- baby
- soos (shoes)
- pah-ee (potty -- yes, we've begun potty-training, but that's enough about that 'cause it deserves its very own post :-)
- coco (this is our word for "owie" or "booboo")
- mo (more)
- papa (with Em, we refer to food as "papa")
- chee (cheese)
- joo (juice)
- kee or keekee (cookie)
- buh (book)
- bah (ball)
- pyesh (spider)
There's probably more, but this is all I can think of for now. I'll add more if I come up with any (or if Em reminds me of more!).
Emily doesn't seem to talk as much as other children her age, which interestingly fits the profile of "the child of an engineer" (Thomas Sowell's theory). She isn't anywhere near putting words together to form sentences; in fact, her vocabulary is just now starting to grow. I'm not concerned in the slightest. Our take on it is that Em is so busy analyzing and thinking things out that she just doesn't take the time to form and say the words. She's gettin' there, though!
Thanks for the idea, Alicia!
